Going Goo-Goo for Google!

I'm so loving the possibilities Google provides for educators. I've used it before, but as I learn techniques and opportunities, I'm definitely integrating it in into my classroom this fall. I have decided to transform my class into a Flipped Classroom and a Paperless Learning Environment. With Google it is allowing me to create forms for assessments, exit slips, surveys, assignment dropbox, and storage.
All Google forms are very simple to create. Do a Google search and tons of stuff will come up on the topic!

I will be using Google Forms for my exit slips, student lesson reflections, and assessments. Have fun exploring Google Forms and how you can use them in your classroom!

We now have a page on Facebook! Visit us at: DreamMakersEducationalServices!

My favorite pair for engaging students in assessments: BrainPop and ActivExpressions!
I'm a BrainPOP Educator Badge

Today's (11/14/2012) iStrategy is using Podomatic's Minicast Feature. Students can download a song and pictures to create a picture video. Two steps...Add music and then add photos. Publish and you are done! Who says you can't have fun integrating technology? This sample video is dedicated to my Mentoring Group!

Today's (11/13/2012) App of the day is Worldsalad! This FREE app creates word clouds in a quick, fast, fun way! Help students review vocabulary and combine this with Fotobabble and have them explain their word salad! What a great way to engage students in learning vocabulary, concepts, formulas, and more! So easy, no directions required!

Just found this cute, fun, interactive sight for students to use as a way to explain thier understanding of a topic. It's called Fotobabble! It is a free app or you can use the website. Students upload a picture and create a voice recording for the picture. Check the example I used below:

Free Texting

If you have students like me, a cell phone is attached to their hands like their fingers. I needed to find a way to communicate with my students and parents for reminders, updates, and simple acknowledgements. Last year I used Remind101 and it was great. It is a free tool you create messages online, setup delivery date and time, and that it! This year, I came acorss the site: sendhub.com. It's the same concept as Remind 101, but a bit different. Remind 101 does not require you to import contacts, students send a message to an assigned number and that's it. Sendhub, requires you to create a contact list. Both sites allow you to schedule delivery. Check out both and see which one works for you!

Bitly

Save, share, and discover links across the web. We use bitly in class as an easy way to share online tutorial sites for our students.  Students can access websites easily and fast. It is a great collaboration tool for groups. Check out our class bitly: Our Class bitly

The Instant Classroom
 This is a great

Create a free, customizable, printable seating chart and more with Instant Classroom.

The iPad Pen

Since we have a class set of iPads,  my students and I have love what we can do with the iPad pens. Yes, you can use your fingers, but for graphing and neu.Annonate pdf assignments, the pens are a must have. Amazon and Ebay have them in bulk for very cheap! That reminds me, I have to pay my co-worker!

The Tool Belt

This is a cute garden tool belt I found in the Dollar Bin at Wal-mart. I added a bow for flare and I must say it is a keeper. It is small enough to stay on the side comfortably all day and big enough to keep my pins, small notepad, clips, keys, markers, lotion, etc. Thinking about making some for my kids teachers!

The Paperless Classroom

I always wanted to know  how I could actually go conduct a paperless classroom. Could I create a learning experience for my students that does not require making copies of notes, worksheets, and assessments. After a couple of hours of planning, I think I have a plan. Tomorrow students will complete their warm-ups on the iPads using Socrative, followed by their assignment list on EDU 2.0. I have created their worksheet as a pdf file, that they can write on using the neu.Annonate app. Our class discussions will be posted on Today's Meet and Corkboard.me. Excited and ready to see how this work.

Our paperless classroom begins with students completing their warm-ups on EDU 2.0 and then reading their agenda for the day. Textbooks are provided to students as a PDF file that they can highlight and annonate as needed to understand the lesson. Students use their own paper to complete problems and take notes. Practice problems are embedded in our EDU 2.0 class for students to complete during class. Online tools such as Today's Meet and Corkboard.me provide our class with the opportunity to collaborate with each other. We use apps such as Doddle Buddy as our personal whiteboard to share our answers during our class discussions. Class ends with students using EDU 2.0 to complete their Exit Slip and summarizing what they learned in class on our Discussion Board.

We are definitely saving trees and copy cost in Room 117. How do you use technology in your class?

(11/8/2012) Adding a new feature to our Paperless Classroom...Evernote!

Evernote + iPad = e-Portfolio

Evernote is a wonderful free app for students to be creative and stay organized. Evernote is an app that provides students with the opportunity to create a digital file of their notes, projects, assignments, and more.

I am going to use the iPad and Evernote as a tool to create e-portfolios for students to see, understand, reflect upon and share thier growth as a learner in my class. Students will be able to store anything in it and access it anywhere, from school, home, or their phone.

E-Portfolios will be used to store finished work and allows students to use it as a place for ongoing work.

5 Ways My Students Will Use Evernote

1.    Take notes in class. – Students can write their notes in Evernote or write handwritten notes and take a picture of it to save in Evernote.

2.    Go paperless. – Students can use Evernoteto save all assignments

3.    Portable textbooks. – Take pictures of required reading, charts, activities and save it into Evernote.

4.    Multiple Notebooks – Create multiple notebooks to organize different subjects.

5.    Record important lectures – You can record audio notes on your phone or iPad right in Evernote to ensure you didn’t miss anything from the class lecture.

The Talking Worksheet
Have you ever heard of a worksheet that talks to you. This is a fun way to leave specific instructions when you are out. Students can create a talking worksheet to explain a topic or complete an assignment to show their understanding of  a topic. It is very easy and fun to create. With Photo Booth or iMove and Pages, you can create a worksheet that talks to your students.
Project Ideas: Math ~ Explaining the steps of a word problem. English ~ Reading a paper that was written. Social Studies ~ Explaining the events on a timeline Science ~ Explaining the Scientific Method...the possibilities are endlessly!
