F.A.T. It Does A Student Good ~ Formative Assessment Tools

Formative Assessments is essential in student's academic success. Integrating formative assessment tools into your instruction will help students understand their learning and help you guide instruction.

Formative Assessment tells the student (1) where they are going (2) what they are now and (3)how they can close the gap. 

The must important part of formative assessments is the feedback. Feedback should be individualized and tell the students how to improve. 

In my book F.A.T. I share many formative assessment tools and ideas to track student process. 

 Here are a few ideas you can use:

Parking Lot Self -Assessment: A quick and easy self-assessment for students is a Parking Lot. Students rate their level if understanding and place on the board. 

WallWisher: This is a digital formative assessment tool. I took a worksheet cut the problems out and allowed students to draw a problem. Each student solved their problem and posted the solution and the method they used to the Wall.

Starting Our Day with a Pop

Inspired by my students to use BrainPop everyday...I decided to create BrainPop interactive lessons to begin each class day. BrainPop has so many different lessons with videos, activities, quizzes, and games it was easy to create 4 weeks of assignments for my students.

We will begin our week with Moby and Tim as they explain the weekly topic. On Tuesday through Thursday students participate in BrainPop's vocabulary, graphic organizer, and Do It activities. We will end each week using ActivExpressions and BrainPop's quizzes.

I love BrainPop and so do my students! Even though they are in high school, they still find Tim and Moby great teachers!

One of the best digital lessons I’ve ever done was with the use of BrainPOP and ActivExpressions. BrainPOP and ActivExpressions gave me the opportunity to create lessons that are engaging and interactive.
One day while in class, I came across BrainPOP and watched the video. I clicked on Quizzes and I saw shining lights around ActivExpressions and ActiVotes. Were my eyes deceiving me? Can my students use ActivExpressions to take a BrainPOP quiz? Yes, it was true! What a perfect combination! But, will it work with my high school students?
